Richard Reittie of Sully's Boxing Gym in Toronto is Boxing Ontario's first Athlete of the Month in 2005. He captured his first Provincial title as a Senior by surviving the rigorous weekend of boxing in St. Catharines, then winning a Box-Off one week later in the 75kg division. In his more than 50 bouts, Richard has defeated champions from Italy, Ireland, and the United States. The Sully's prodigy is quick to credit his success to his coaches and to his family, a sign of a humble champion. Richard hopes to continue his victorious run at the Nationals in Quebec, January 20-23.
BOX-ON! Blitz! Instructors Needed!
Over the next few months, Boxing Ontario will commence a "blitz" of schools throughout Ontario utilizing its standardized youth fitness program. BOX-ON! is a non-contact fitness regimen for youth that encourages active and healthy lifestyles through the sport of boxing. We are seeking talented young adults within our membership to lead these classes in their local schools and chapters. This program is a great opportunity for boxers to improve their coaching skills and involvement with the community. BOX-ON! Instructors gain experience and knowledge, can recruit new boxers for their gyms, and they also receive a paid honorarium for their participation in the class.
We encourage everyone who receives the Boxing Ontario Newsletter to consider who, at your club, would be a great teaching instructor of the BOX-ON! program instructor. Contact us as soon as possible! On January 29th we are hosting a mandatory Instructor Seminar and all individuals who are interested in the program MUST attend. The seminar will outline the program, as well as the goals and objectives of BOX-ON! Head Instructor Kathy Ure, Boxing Ontario's Female Athlete Representative and ESTEEM Team Spokesperson, will discuss the benefits of working with youth and how to effectively teach a BOX-ON! session. Instructor Application Forms can be found on the website (Forms) and we ask all interested applicants to submit these forms by January 24. The seminar on the 29th will run from 2-6pm, location to be determined based on the geography of the applicants. We encourage applications from ALL parts of the province. In order to participate as an instructor, you must have/be:
- A registered Boxing Ontario member, in good standing, of a registered Boxing Ontario Club - Willing to complete your Level 1 Coaching Certification (BOX-ON! Instructors receive discounted Level 1 Technical Boxing Training!) or a current Level 1 Certified Coach - A current full Police Records Check as you will be working directly with youth of Ontario - Participate in the BOX-ON! Instructor Seminar on January 29, 2005
Contact the marketing department for further details. We'll see you on the 29th!
Go Ontario!

Good luck to our Senior Males and Females next weekend as they travel to St. Hyacinthe, Quebec to compete in the National Championships. Also good luck to our current National Champions who will be attempting to defend their titles. Ontario will no doubt provide another dominating performance!
