From the ED's Corner

Ontario is the best!

The Junior Nationals just wrapped up and Ontario led the pack in overall medals and gold's.This is such great news and a testament to the fine athletes and coaches from our province. This represents the future of our sport and as such it will be very bright! Congratulations to all of Team Ontario at the juniors and seniors – we rock. The Senior National Team is full of our athletes with 3 males and 6 females.

We are also very excited about the news coming from AIBA and the 2012 Olympics.By fully endorsing the participation of women at the next games we are that much closer to the goal of having female boxers in London. The next important event will be this October when the IOC makes its final decision, we feel very positive that they will agree. If so there is no doubt that the National Team will be very strong with a strong Ontario contingent.

The Brampton Cup was a huge success and one of the biggest yet. Thanks to everyone for their hard work at the event and for putting in some long days and nights.Peter and his club did a great job as always and they should be proud of running such a successful event.

The season continues with a record number of club shows this month with a total of 12 shows. We recognize the time and effort it takes clubs to host these events so thank you for doing this a supporting our boxers.

The planning continues for our Gala Event on May 30th, 2009 in Oshawa.Tickets are on sale now only $50 – the day includes a training camp, boxing show and our awards and it will be a great way to end the season.Contact our office for tickets or more details – we will also be out at club shows in the next few months selling tickets.

As always, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any feedback or questions.

 Equipment Care

Want to prolong the life of your Top Ten Equipments and reduce/eliminate the odor in your sports bag?

1. Coaches using equipment for shows or tournaments, get proper Hygienic soap, mix with water spray lightly on gloves and wipe off germs and blood that could harm the next fighter using the glove.

2. When tournaments or fight card is finished, take gloves out of your sports bag as soon as possible, spray lightly with Lysol germ killer/disinfectant, leave gloves out of the Bag in a dry place for about 2 days; you can also do this for your Bayflex and leather head guards.

3. To keep your sports bag dry, remove any damp clothing from it and most importantly put desiccant bags in your sports bag.  This bag literally eats moisture.

When you purchase leather products, look for these bags and save then, they are ideal.  You can also find them in most piano stores, they are normally removed when shipment arrive from overseas.

4. Cleaning your equipment once a month is a good average but gloves, Head Guards, kicks and any other leather products, should be removed, cleaned and aired out on regular basis.

Soap suds can be used, this will also preserve leather. Be sure all leather is properly aired and dried before putting back in your bag.
