Boxing Ontario Hosting NCCP Clinics!

Boxing Ontario wants to host NCCP clinics in your area.  All you have to do is provide the facility; Boxing Ontario will register the participants.  The more clinics that are available during the coming season, the greater the opportunity for coaches to become certified.

An NCCP clinic can be hosted by any registered club/ region which has established a need for the course. NCCP clinics can be put together with a month's notice.

1.To host a clinic, you must have a facility.

2.Contact Boxing Ontario for a Hosting Application.
a) Select two date options b) Confirm a site c) Establish a contact person.

3.Once the application has been approved and a date has been confirmed, Boxing Ontario will assign a Learning Facilitator to your clinic.

4.As soon as the clinic has been approved, Boxing Ontario will post the clinic information on the Web Site.

5.Five to 10 days prior to the clinic, Boxing Ontario must be notified of the number of participants that have registered for the clinic with you directly. This will ensure the correct number of manuals and other materials are provided.

6.It is ideal that all registrants and all fees be paid to Boxing Ontario before the clinic; Boxing Ontario is responsible for shipping all course materials to the site, or the contact person, as identified by the host.

7.The length and cost of the NCCP clinics vary depending on the level of the clinic. Contact Deide Konney for more info. dkonney@boxingontario.com, 416.426.7045.

8.In order to run a clinic, a minimum of 10 participants must be registered by the set clinic date.

Ahmet Cup

Ontario sent 6 strong female boxers, all on the National team to Istanbul, Turkey for the Ahmet Comert Cup. This international tournament was held from June 9-15.

Many of the female competitors are coming off really big wins recently. We saw Mandy Bujold beat the world bronze medalist from India in a dual match and collectively the Ontario females beat Team India, who are ranked #1 in the world, 4-1 in Sudbury and 6-3 in Windsor.

"We will all be there at our best. We know this is a tough tournament and we can't wait to face the rest of the world and show them what we've got!" says Mary Spencer. Mary is currently on the National team and was Boxing Canada's 2004, 2005, 2007 Female Athlete of the Year.

Coach Gord Apolloni feels the same way. "It is a pleasure to work with athletes, boxers, who really want to win. This is the second year in a row attending this tournament for this team.  It is encouraging to hear that they, the team, are looking forward to have podium performances at this event. This event is excellent in preparing for the world championships in November.  I can't wait to see this enthusiasm become reality...I believe in this team".

This tournament is a taste of the competition to be expected when they next compete at the Women's World Championships in China this Fall.

CHIN Picnic

Canada Day revelers at Exhibition Place had more to look forward to than fireworks yesterday. Amateur Boxing was at its best inside the Better Living Building. A 10 bout card excited the packed house yesterday, a bout card that featured boxers from Italy as well.

CHIN organizer Lenny Lombardi was extremely excited with boxers from Italy being featured on the card and was impressed with quality of all the bouts yesterday afternoon.

Thanks to Chris Johnson's Fighting Alliance for hosting this event and a special thanks to the Italian team for their appearance on the card. Special congratulations to the afternoons best boxer Cedric Panna.

Please go to the results page for full results.
