Boxing Ontario certifies coaches through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
There are 5 levels of certification. Level-I entitles you to work in a corner at a club show, while Level-V is required at the Olympics.
Levels I-III consist of three components: Theory, Technical and Practical. After completing all three components at each level, coaches receive official recognition of their accomplishment - Certification. Then they are able to move on to the next level.
For example, to be a fully certified Level I Coach, you must take Level I Theory, Level I Technical and Level I Practical. The order you complete the components isn't as important as completing one entire Level before moving on to the next Level.
UPDATE! - THEORY COURSE CHANGES
Please note there have been some important changes to the NCCP Theory Courses. First when you are searching for courses, they are now called "NCCP Multi-Sport" courses rather than "NCCP Theory" courses. Secondly Level I theory is now called "Introduction to Competition A", Level II is now called "Introduction to Competition B" and Level III Theory is still called Level III Theory. So when searching for coaching clinics on http://www.coachesontario.ca/ if you are looking for what was formerly Level I theory, under course category, select "NCCP Multi-sport", and under sub-category select "Introduction to Competition A".
